Ferry - Decentralised file transfer

Project overview

A web3 file transfer tool built to be easy to use for everyone. Our tool sends files from one person to another, similar to otherWeb 2 tools you have used but now, decentralised!Centralised file transfer tools are wasteful by design, and the end-users pay the costs. We need to make the transition to Web3 as easy as possible. The Web 3 ecosystem needs solutions that let people migrate from web 2 without even realising it.Ferry provides a familiar workflow for file transfers - one that mirrors what people are already comfortable with.

The Challenge

Ferry was born at the 2021 ETH Global Hackathon HackFS. We saw a lack of simple replacements for web2 projects in the web3 space that had really good ux.

We wanted to create something that we would use. As creatives and developers ourselves, we see that most of us work with image and video files that are too big for attachments in Discord, Telegram, etc - even email. Why is it like this? Why are those platforms so limiting? We all know It's about storage space, the lack of it and the inefficiency of storing files for an extended amount of time - just to send it.

Ferry was a finalist in the competition.

Wireframes

We wanted to make the product as clean and simple as possible, while still providing an excellent user experience. We made sure to look at the strengths and weaknesses of our web2 competitors. This allowed us to create an easy pick up point for new adopters of the web3 space.
